Global is committed to working closely with community members and stakeholders, elected officials, and regulatory agencies throughout the permit review process. As a first step, and in collaboration with the DEC, Global participated in a public information meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Giffen Memorial Elementary School in Albany. The meeting provided information about the Global facility and the proposed Project. The meeting included presentations by both DEC and Global, as well as an opportunity for the public to provide input and feedback. Supplemental to that initial meeting, we have developed a comprehensive Public Participation Plan, designed with input from community leaders, neighborhood residents and elected officials, to engage citizens and facilitate discussion regarding our proposed Project.
The plan, which was developed in conformance with the DEC’s Environmental Justice and Permitting Policy, supplements a host of public engagement activities already administered by the DEC on the proposed Project.
Specific objectives of the plan include:
• Ensuring that outreach efforts include residents of the environmental justice
areas in proximity of the Project area;
• Establishing open communication between residents of the environmental
justice area in proximity of the Project area, Global and the DEC;
• Informing residents of the environmental justice area in proximity of the
Project area about the specific aspects of Global’s proposed Project; and,
• Creating opportunities for residents of the environmental justice area in
proximity of the Project area to share their questions and concerns about the
Key components of the plan involve public outreach, including community meetings with opportunities for questions and answers; development of educational materials, such as project fact sheets; and the launch of this Project web site.
To provide additional information to the community, Global held additional public forums in March and November, as well as multiple meetings with elected officials, stakeholders and residents in the area.
